Lily Gray is a Senior Liaison Officer at UNESCO New York Office where she is responsible for promoting UNESCO’s programmes in the fields of education, culture and social sciences. Her work focusses on the major global education related partnerships, improving relevance of the cognitive, behavioural and social skills of young people including through the education for sustainable development and global citizenship. She has supported the establishment of a broad range of partnerships at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, in particular the Secretary-General Global Education First Initiative launched in 2012.
She also works for the advancement of the culture of peace and gender equality portfolios the Organization. To ensure this promotion, she presents UNESCO’s programs through targeted interventions at the United Nations bodies such as the General Assembly, ECOSOC and its subsidiary commissions. Ms Gray facilitates the dialogue with the member states’ representatives, and New York based UN entities for the successful implementation of the education related targets and goals, including through support for the SDG – Education 2030 Steering Committee.
Prior to this posting, she served at the Office of the Director-General of UNESCO as a focal point for the United Nations system, its reform and its respective interagency mechanisms.
Before joining UNESCO, she worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria where she served as a diplomat responsible for the human rights and humanitarian issues at the United Nations, New York. Lily Gray holds a MSc in International relations from the University of Sofia, Bulgaria.
